Environmental & Safety Audit

 

The Environmental and/or Safety Audit is a company management tool that involves the application of a process of investigation, of analysis, of comparison of variables considered, under the profile of the Environment and of the Safety, important for the success of the company.
The Audit is an essential part of every Environmental - Safety Management Plan

The Environmental Audit can answer to one or more of the following targets:
- assuring the conformity to laws/regulations;
- determining the responsibility;
- guaranteeing the management;
- valuing the situation for acquisitions, disinvestments, joint-ventures;
- checking the environmental costs;
- checking the operative conditions;
- increasing the environmental consciousness;
- valuing the environmental situation of a company (see figure).

The Audit Plan , the use of Check Lists, the choice and the measuring of the Indicating of Performances are peculiar to the typology of Audit and to the specific productive area.

 

Different are the definitions of Ecoaudit gave from various organisms (EPA, ICC, CEE, ISO).
According to the EPA (the USA Environmental Agency), the Environmental Audit is:
"a systematic analysis, documented, periodic and objective of the operations of the plants and of the relative procedures to respect the environmental requisite, effected by controlled entity".
According to EMAS rule of the CEE n.1836/93 the Environmental Audit is:
"a tool of management including an evaluation, systematic, documented, periodic and objective of the organization's efficiency, of the management system and of the assigned process to the environmental protection, to make easier the management control of the praxis that are possible to have an impact on the environment and to value the conformity to the company politics".
