The Environmental Management Systems developed from the ISO 14001 has the purpose to furnish to all the "organizations" (of any type and dimension) the "bases of an effective system of environmental management, that integrated with the other demands of management helps the organizations to reach their environmental and economic objectives".

ISO 14001 doesn't require particular technologies, and it doesn't force the firm to respect particular restrictions.

 

The ISO management system is rather an organizational picture, that must be periodically monitored and seen again because can furnish an effective direction to the environmental activities of an organization answering to inside and external factors.
